Child-Centered Education
It was the birth of his son that inspired our founder, J.C. Huizenga, to begin thinking about education from a parent’s perspective. A successful entrepreneur, Huizenga had a vision to provide a quality educational option for all students by applying basic business principals to establish a system of schools that were more accountable, efficient and results oriented. His vision first began to become a reality in 1995.
Solid Foundations
Founded on the four pillars of academic excellence, moral focus, parental partnership and student responsibility, NHA’s first school, Excel Charter Academy, opened its doors to 174 students in September, 1995. Today, with these pillars now firmly established, NHA is fortunate to partner with school boards at 55 schools across Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, New York, North Carolina and Ohio that serve more than 35,000 children and families.

Just the Beginning
With a vision to better educate more children and a little more than a dozen years of experience behind us, we view our work as only just beginning. As we look to the future, we will continue to partner with school boards that are looking to bring parents in their community another educational option for their children. Additionally, we will continue to invest resources into our current schools to ensure that in every classroom, in every school, we are challenging each child to achieve. |
